About the Air Filter on your dirt bike
Air filter maintain your dirt bike engine performance and health by preventing dust and sand particles from entering and damaging it. An old, or clogged air filter will not only deteriorate engine performance because of reduced airflow, but can also cause foreign object damage to its piston and head.
Cleaning and changing dirtbike air filter Cleaning or changing dirtbike filter is not exactly a dream job, but you got to do it regularly, specially before and after your bike has been to the dirt track You can easily clean it by following these easy steps. • Thoroughly clean your air filter box outside before opening it so that no dust or foreign particle falls inside the box when it is open. • Carefully lift the lid of the air box and while avoiding any outside object or particle from falling into the air intake, remove the air filter and take it out of its plastic housing. • As a safety precaution, place a clean rag to block the air intake against anything accidentally falling into it. • Inspect the air filter closely for extent of blockage, cuts and holes. If filter condition is really bad, you need to change it with a new one right away. • If it is just dirty or somewhat clogged, you need to wash it by soaking in water and washing with light detergent. • Once the filter is clean, allow it to dry in air properly before putting it back in. • Once the air filter is fully dry, apply filter oil to it evenly. One way is to soak the clean, dry filter in oil and then squeeze so that filter oil is applied lightly and evenly to the whole filter and extra is removed. Also apply filter oil to a new filter before installing. • Apply water proof grease to the sides of your clean/new air filter for sealing the space between the filter and the chamber walls. • Put the clean/new filter into the housing and carefully close the lid and tighten the screws. • Happy riding!
